Helping Young Witches and Wiccans

Today one of my most favorite things about being a writer for The Craft is that I am available to assist young witches and Wiccans on their path. When my books first came out, I didn't realize how much teaching would automatically become part of my life. I thought I could just jump in and explain magic as I now see it, after years of study and tutelage. But that wasn't fair to anyone. I needed to retrace my steps and describe in slow motion detail how to get started on a path of natural magic and faery miracles. At first I wasn't thrilled about this backward journey. I was raised Christian Science and have since defended a spirituality that insists we have more power than we use, for over thirty years. There was a lot of ridicule and pain locked in those memories. But as I peeled back the layers of semantics and discovered the base ingredients in creating a magical life, I became stronger in my faith. What a gift.

As a young adults we all experience the extremities of emotions. Our very bodies are in constant turmoil, so pretty much anything seems possible. This is a perfect time for magic to enter. Plus as young adults we swing back and forth with intense feelings, and so very much need a mentor and a guiding light. I now absolutely adore and am honored by the emails or myspace messages asking me what to do if they can't find a pink candle or forgot the exact wording to summon the Guardians of the Northern Quadrant.

My books were intended to be a stepping stones for readers to create their own script in ritual. Of course, it is very helpful to have a helping hand, such as a book in the beginning. But I stress (when I get the chance) that each person must understand that as he or she progresses on their individual path it is not only okay, but encouraged to add personal input. For example, include in your ceremony your perceptions and interpretations of what the elements mean to you. Magic works based on faith - not only in the magic, the Universe, and nature, but also, and most importantly, in yourself!
