The Power of Your Heart’s Desire

“I was once asked why I don't participate in anti-war demonstrations. I said that I will never do that, but as soon as you have a pro-peace rally, I'll be there.” - Mother Teresa

I have a teenage cousin who, up until a few months ago, seemed to have much of his energy focused on the negativity he saw in the world. As a strict vegan, he vehemently opposed the callous nature of the meat industry. He complained about the school system, which, in his opinion, did little more than produce robots to work in a mindless capitalistic society. He opposed American war tactics, which he felt ostracized our foreign brothers and sisters and created unnecessary enemies all over the world. He spoke passionately about his beliefs, then before my eyes, the energy would drain from him and he would slump into a depression. Weighed down by all the pain he felt and saw, his entire aura, the energy around him, darkened.

One night we had an amazing connection. Seizing the opportunity, I hopped up on my soapbox, as I am known to do. I told him that while his opinions were valuable, it is much more effective to be for something, not merely against something. He kind of mumbled and I’m not sure if I got through. However, in that moment I heard the kind of ringing that reverberates when a truth has been spoken. It is also the sound that often means I should be listening to my own counsel.

Just a few months later a battle ensued between my husband and a neighbor. A succession of altercations occurred, in which this neighbor threatened our safety and the security of my children. The Mama Bear, with her commanding, metaphysical powers, arose great within me. I thought long and hard about how to best protect my family. I spoke with friends, I lit candles, I called the police. Then after weeks, with the ugliness of the neighbor increasing, I went to visit my cousin and to my great joy, the light had returned to his eyes. I was inspired. He finished his GED, had a job, and attended rallies and whatnot in support of his values. I heard the echo of my words “it is much more effective to be for something, not merely against something.”

Even though it felt more natural to fight as the surest means of protection, the time had come to raise my vibration to sense and feel and focus on what I wanted. Instead of attacking what I opposed, it was far more important to light candles and celebrate what I believe in and support. I shifted the energy in my home, literally moving furniture, to create a strong family core. I developed traditions to strengthen the relationships within my family. Where I once felt hopeless and discouraged, I now feel grounded, strong, and confidant. Regardless of the neighbor's antics, my new focus has provided me with more power and energy than before because I am now aligned with creative source energy and moving in the direction I want.

No matter what the situation is, action and thoughts that support our inner heart’s desires help us vibrate at the frequency that attracts these wishes. It doesn't matter how impossible it seems. Love, connection, contentment, or wholeness is ours for the asking. Place your energy on where you want to go, what you want to experience, and you will find an unfailing method to achieve a life that surpasses your wildest dreams.
