JANUARY - The "Be Good" Spell
This spell not recommended for people under 18. Adult supervision advised.
I'm in the mood to share with you a spell that I did a few years back. I think you'll find it interesting.
Even though I'm a hard working Capricorn, I have these really wild hairs that force me to do crazy, outrageous things. Ever have one of those moments? For me it had become a bit of a trend that seemed to have no end in sight and I could feel disaster around the corner. I needed to stop the wild roller coaster, and now.
Upon an antique dresser, I set up an altar in dedication to the Egyptian Goddess Ma'at, ruler of truth, justice, balance, divine order. Now Egyptian deities are not to be called on lightly. They are known to take things literally, quite serious about their magic. I thought this was just what the doctor ordered. The image I had of Ma'at was on a card. I placed some green semi-precious stones (she likes Emerald) around her, an aloe vera leaf, a small elephant statue, a red flower or feather (can't remember which), and a little bottle of perfume. I created a perfectly balanced altar - same number of objects on either side of her picture. Then I lit a very large sage bundle. It was more like a Roman torch, really. As I saged the altar and my office, the room where I spent most of my time, I said:
Ma'at, Goddess of Truth, Justice, and Divine Order
I call upon you to help me draw a healthy border
Smoke out the paths that are wrong for me
Please bring me back to my innate stability
I call upon the truth for which you stand
That my true power will live in me just as grand
Of the paths that are wrong, I ask you to block
Show me the truth, the way that is right to walk
By my will so mote it be
This I make true, three times three times three
I smashed the smudge stick into my abalone shell, making sure not a single whisper of smoke remained. I stood in front of the altar and thanked Ma'at for her guidance and assistance. Then I left to go pick up my kids from preschool. I returned twenty minutes later. As I passed the office, which had windowed French doors, I noticed how white the room looked, as if I had drawn the curtains. I didn't remember doing that. I opened the French doors and the smoke billowed out. The smudge stick had relit itself and a two foot flame burned from the smoldering sage and the abalone shell. Without thinking, I grabbed the shell and whisked it outside where I threw it to the ground. The shell crumbled and broke in half. I stomped the fire out. The dresser had a large burn mark on it, but thankfully hadn't caught fire.
The room had been smoked out, quite literally. I felt the power of the Goddess' aid and by the sheer force of her commitment to me and my new desire, from that moment forward I left behind the old ways and walked a path that was in accord with my true power. This spell really underlined for me the requirement of all spellcasting: that you must be prepared for all outcomes, that you must be very careful when asking assistance of the Universe. Particularly when calling on an Egyptian deity.
